The Sage Program to Health and Wellness
Phase II - The Challenge Phase
The good news is that you get to add them all back. The bad news is that you are allergic to the foods you really like.
The reason for the challenge phase is to prove that the foods identified by the test are actually causing specific symptoms. Secondly, the challenge phase helps in diet management, as those foods that now give you no reaction at all may be added back to your regular diet at the end of the challenge phase.
How do you do it?
At the end of the initial six weeks, if you are positive that you have not eaten any of the offending foods, you may begin the challenge phase. To do this, add back one, and ONLY ONE, food per week. Each time a food is challenged, it is again removed from the diet (whether positive or negative) until the end of the challenge period.
- Choose one food on your exclusion list.
- The food should be eaten in three out of five successive meals over a 2 day period.
- Wait 4 days.
- Choose another food on your list.
- Repeat items 2 through 5 until you have tested each food on your list.
